What is steel detailing?
Steel detailing is the process of producing the drawings a fabricator builds structural steel from - turning an engineer's design into precise, buildable information.
A structural engineer decides the sizes and loads. The detailer then draws every member with exact dimensions, hole positions, welds, connection details and reference marks, plus a marking plan and cutting list.
Without detailing, a fabricator can't accurately cut, drill and weld the steel, and it won't fit together on site. Good detailing is what makes the difference between steel that bolts straight up and steel that has to be re-worked.
